The greatest enemy to anyone's success is "killing time." Relaxing is one thing. But when you catch yourself watching a TV program you don't even like because you've "got nothing better to do," you're killing time. And time you kill is time you can't get back. It's not just dead, you murdered it.

So, when you catch yourself killing time, stop. You've always got something better to do. Start brainstorming and come up with a business idea. It doesn't have to be brilliant. It could be a thought experiment. How would you create the most successful banana distributorship in MonkeyLand?

Start thinking it through. Treat it like a real business idea and build it step-by-step. Start thinking about where you'd identify areas of opportunity, what logistical issues might come up... And you'll find your mind going off in directions you didn't expect, getting ideas totally unrelated to becoming MonkeyLand's Banana Baron. Some of the ideas will be useless, but some will make you say "I've gotta write this down" and take you down all sorts of interesting trains of thought.

You may not get a great idea while contemplating that banana bonanza, but I'll guarantee you that you're much more likely to get one while doing that than you are to get one while vegging out and thinking you have nothing better to do than veg out.

Bodies at rest are hard to get moving, but bodies in motion are hard to stop. The same goes for your brain. Even if it's not moving in a direction you think is productive, just getting it moving will help make sure that you're using your time instead of killing it, and the odds that something useful will come out of that time go up immensely.
