Sorry to hear about the problems with the coder you chose on Rent a Coder.  It sounds like the site did what it was supposed to...which was to return your money to you if there is a problem. 

However, it sounds like you didn't use an important site feature which can protect you in cases like this one from losing time...which is what happened to you.  You can require the coder to place a deposit to guarantee completion (called the Expert Guarantee).  This really commits them to completing it by the deadline and prevents "walk-outs".  The one caveat however, is that if you are looking to get a project developed at below-market rates, then this technique will not work.  However, for 99% of the cases out there it does.

Good to hear however that you learned how to program it yourself...that will serve you well.  Good luck with your business.
