Republican Candidates on Energy
Posted by: Greg Bulmash in Dangerous Thoughts, Politics & ReligionAfter evaluating the energy policies of the frontrunning Democratic presidential candidates, I figured it was only fair to go check what the frontrunning Republican presidental candidates had to say.
As my four frontrunners, I went with Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, Mitt Romney, and Mike Huckabee. Some would argue against Huckabee being a frontrunner, but he's been doing a lot of TV lately and getting a lot of name recognition.
Unlike the Democrats where only 3 out of 4 had easy-to-find areas with their positions on the issues (Hillary didn't have an "issues" section, but was instead talking-heading them in her "videos" section), all 4 Republican candidates had easy-to-find issues areas of their sites. But, judging by the issues they addressed, Republican voters don't care about energy policies, or at least the Republican candidates think they don't. Of the four, only Romney had a specific energy policy and it was like Biden's energy policy; two paragraphs that hit the buzzwords but didn't lay out any specifics.
So, of the Democratic candidates, 3 out of 4 lay out specific energy policies, and one just pays lip service. Of the Republican candidates, 3 out of 4 have no issue statement specific to energy on their site, and the one that does just pays lip service.
Whether or not you like the energy policies of the Democrats, at least the majority of their frontrunners are publicly expressing one. For someone like me, who considers a sound and aggressive energy policy vital to the future of our country, the Republican campaigns are DOA.
