I just got another job scam e-mail, this time offering me a sales rep position. What some of you may not know is that not all the job offer scams are intended to get you to cash fake checks or buy classes you don't need or buy supplies for a project that never materializes. Some of them are phishing scams.

Think about how much information you're asked for on a job application. It's generally as much as you are asked for on a credit application, which means if some scam artist can fake you into giving them all that personal information, they can steal your identity, get credit cards in your name, and possibly do worse. If you have your resume up on a site like careerbuilder.com or monster.com, you need to be very careful when fielding letters of interest from recruiters, because a lot of scam artists are finding these job sites a rich source of leads for all sorts of scams that play on your need/desire for a new or better job.

Here's the mail...

MarinellSoft, Ltd.

Despite their claim of having operated "over the years," there is only ONE search result at this time for MarinellSoft at Google and it's on a list of things that were hot searches at Google earlier today. Even worse, their marinellsoft.org domain name record was created less than a week ago (February 20th). Amazing that such an "established" company's web site is less than a week old and there's NOTHING about them on Google.

These are Russian crooks looking to steal something from you. Do not respond to them, even to tell "David Borman" to go screw himself. Delete the mail and be glad you weren't sucked in.

  1. THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP!!!!!! WE NEED MORE PEOPLE LIKE YOU!!! I JUST GOT THIS EMAIL THIS EVENING AND NOW KNOWING ALL OF THIS I WANT TO KICK THEIR ASSES MYSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    SKARLETTE

  2. I totally got this one. I was suspicious, though, because the sender was listed as Phillip Galloway, but the email said it was from David Borman. Thanks for the heads-up.

  3. I got this one too. Sender was different from signer "David Borman."

This one is much better written than the old African Finance Minister desperate to find a bank account in America in which he can park some millions and similar ploys. These scammers almost sound believable. They may have studied legitimate job ads from major job boards.

  4. Hey you guys, look out because the signer and the person from which sent the email are not the same. When I requested how they knew I was considering a change in employment, that flew right over there head. At least, they thought I would forget that, if the offer was so good they thought I will just go along with them. Sorry, I won't be selling for this SH...!
