TV Geekery
Mar 5th, 2008 by Greg Bulmash
My wife and I are big sci-fi geeks (yes, I married a gorgeous cheerleader who harbored an inner sci fi geek - had my cake and ate it too). So, now with the writers strike over, I decided to check into what's coming back when. The data below is from an e-mail I composed to my wife about the status of our favorite shows.
Chuck, Pushing Daisies, and Heroes are gone until fall, but are currently slated to return.
Dresden Files - Cancelled.
Doctor Who - Returning in April with a spin-off called The Sarah Jane Adventures.
Sarah Jane is the old Doctor Who companion who did the cameo in the episode where Mickey realized: "I'm the tin dog."
Sarah Jane is coming April 11, probably in lockstep with Doctor Who.
The 4400 - The date around which they normally pick up the new season happened during the writers strike, and obviously, no one was negotiating new deals during that time. So some of the writers announced USA cancelled it on the message boards over at the USA network. The fans who keep up on 4400 gossip lost their minds and they've been sending sunflower seeds to USA network, demanding the show be picked up.
USA's been tight-lipped on the topic and hasn't made any overtures in the few weeks since the strike ended. Probably cancelled, but I'm not going to accept that it is until USA Network makes a statement to that effect.
Eureka... renewed before the strike, writers got straight to work when strike ended, looking like it will meet its regular July premiere timeframe. Rumors of an extended season (more than 13 episodes) are looking to be just that... rumors.
And that's what I've been able to find out.
Hurray!
And boo!
Now that I know I'll get my Heroes and Eureka, I can put away my plans for rioting outside the studios. Not surprised Dresden Files was cancelled, since it was barely surviving before the strike.
The Sarah Jane Chronicles better be really freakin' good. Why else would I be interested in one of the Doctor's castoffs? (Besides Martha Jones.)
