New Job Scam: Guardian Consulting
Mar 13th, 2008 by Greg Bulmash
So, I got another job scam from a company calling itself Guardian Consulting. It's remarkable how much effort they put into this, even sending a multi-page "contract" attached with the e-mail, yet let little things show through that show this is a scam. Here's the e-mail:
Hello, you have received this message because you have published your CV at one of the job searching web site and you meet our criteria. Our company (Guardian Consulting) emerged in 1992 as a result of partnership of German entrepreneurs, striving for development, and a group of experts in the field of classical and investment consulting. Currently the company has a gained a unique reputation in the Germany as a consummate consulting professional and the owner of real estate of high commercial value.
We provide the best working conditions for our employees: iPhone or BlackBerry (upon employee's choice) as a gift for easy communication with our managers, as well as a laptop for exchange operations. We also provide medical insurance and an annual salary of $165,000 and $225,000 of MBA degree holders. The salary is paid monthly.
You can read further about job details in a copy of contract, which is attached to this email. If you agree to the terms of the contract, send it to us via email which is shown below. The contract is rather flexible so if you wish to alter some clause, we are open for a discussion.
Please do not confuse us with companies which operate with fake checks, etc. This is a fraud. We NEVER operate with any checks. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask them via email haber.eva.gc@gmail.com
We would like to point out that this job may become a good additional employment for you. You may have a primary employment or a running business and still cooperate with us because this job will not take a lot of your time.
What do you think of our offer?
We are looking forward to hearing from you.
Regards
Eva Haber
Hiring Manager
Okay, they're going to pay me $165,000 - $225,000 a year for a job that "will not take a lot of your time," without an interview, and they're totally open to me modifying the employment contract. These are HUGE red flags. As the old saying goes: "If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is."
Additionally, though the company has been around since 1992 they provide no web site address. Furthermore, Miss Eva's using a free e-mail account at Google, and the sender of the e-mail is "Antonio O'Neal" with an address at commerceone.com which actually resolves to perfect.com and makes no mention of Guardian Consulting at the site. More big red flags. They're so big and reputable, but they don't have their own domain for sending or receiving e-mail?
On top of this, if you look in the e-mail headers you see:
softfail (google.com: domain of transitioning ten.marquard@commerceone.com does not designate 60.22.11.188 as permitted sender) client-ip=60.22.11.188;
Commerceone.com says the IP address (network location) Antonio O'Neal used is unknown to it and not permitted to use its mail servers. He's faked the address and is not sending the mail from a computer/location that is known of or approved by the company he's claiming to have sent it from.
Now, if you double-clicked the zip attachment or opened its contents without properly virus-checking and sandboxing them to make sure they couldn't infect your system, slap yourself. NEVER EVER open attachments from people you don't know until you've done everything you can to protect your system from being damaged by them. If you aren't experienced in protecting your system, then just don't open them.
I didn't find a virus (not saying that means there wasn't one), and there was a contract in Microsoft Word format. And inside the contract is the unmistakeable kicker on it being a big honking scam.
b) open separate bank account for exchange operations and provide the COMPANY with on-line access for exercising total control of the Employee's actions. If desired by the Employeehe may use his personal bank account, but shall also provide the COMPANY with on-line access to it.
You must open a bank account and then provide them with online access to it. If you want, you can use your own, but you have to provide them with online access to it. Let me repeat that... you have to give them online access to a bank account you open. Complete strangers send you a job offer, promising obscene amounts of money for work that won't take a lot of time, and all you have to do is give them online access to your bank account. Is any of this sounding fishy to you yet?
I'll keep on posting and debunking e-mails like this when I get them. Good luck to you all.
I just got this phony offer today. Oddly enough I am in process of looking into another job / even career.
Another valid point, the wording is not correct in several areas -like broken English b/c the verbs do not match plural and singular subjects. If anybody falls for this you have to be an Idiot. Amazing the length these scan artists go too. They did put a lot of effort into this one. BE CAUTIOUS!
I received the same email and had the same concerns however I Googled the company name and they do exist. address listed below.
http://www.guardian-consulting.com/index.php-lng=eng&p=e1.htm
Their web site does have a job posting for the position described in the email. If anybody is really interested in the position I am sure there are other ways to check this company out. They do appear to be liget.
Editor's Note: And if you look up the registry data for that site, it's registered out of Russia, instead of Germany as they claim, and this "legit" company that's been around since 1992 first registered this domain name about three weeks ago. I'd advise against visiting the site as you never know if they're trying to use it to do driveby malware installs.
I just received the same offer you've written about above so I deleted it.
Here's another to check out. http://www.trust-key.net
It came from Cellia Fields. Her email is aexuscouhm@bobsbinding.com

I did a google search for Frank Kleinstern, the alleged CEO of Guardian Consulting...and I found information about IT-Security Business Alliance....which is what Guardian Consulting used to be called. This is a scam, and more details can be found at http://www.bobbear.co.uk/itsecurity.html
I got this same e-mail today. I stumbled upon your post by googleing the e-mail address that they ask for you to respond to if you had any questions. As you did I instantly started picking the e-mail apart! The one thing I couldnt get over is the lack of company information, domain name, and the fact he was e-mailing me from one account and asking me to reply to another! These people are morons!
Hi,
i got similar mail on 13th.
Thank God, I found out these posts. The key is why would anybody pay u so much money just for transferring money (from whom ? to whom? )
I too rec'd the solicitation to work for Guardian Consulting. Read the e-mail which seemed too good to be true. I did not open the zip attachment.
Instead, I googled the company to find out more about it. Found their website on http://www.guardian-consulting.com/index.php-lng=eng&p=e1.htm, and it also appeared very impressive. Pictures & bios are posted for the German officers of the company.
The company website also included a page with awards. One was allegedly received in 2004 from David Frost with the British Chamber of Commerce.
I contacted the BCC. Indeed, David Frost is a real guy there, but they have never heard of Guardian Consulting and confirmed in their reply to me that they never issued an award to the company.
Another "credential" posted was a license to do business in South Africa under the company name LISO Consulting. I wrote to the Financial Services Board who allegedly issued the license, but they have not yet responded. Nonetheless, I checked their online database and could not find LISO Consulting listed among their licensed companies.
My conclusion is that this company is a sham, but someone went to extraordinary lengths to make it appear credible.
Thanks Gregg. I tried googling it as well and didnt get anywhere. The contract, I did not open. I am thankful for you to have published this so that when I googled it, I got your article. There are so many scams like this for vulnerable people out there looking for legitimate work. Thank you for "watchdogging this". I just don't understand why the Attorney General's office or other legal authorities do not police this better. Surely these are not so limited to states but must be nationwide. Any thoughts?
Alexander,
The attorneys general around the country do what they can to stop spam, but the laws for them to prosecute spammers are weak, plus most of these job scams come out of other countries. On every one, they'd have to have an undercover representative respond, gain the confidence of the scammers, play along long enough to get enough information to both identify and prosecute them, then forward that information to authorities in the scammer's home country and hope the authorities there will actually do something.
As you can see, these are very hard to stop. The best way to combat them is through education. If you can't go after every one of these crooks, the next best thing is to help people avoid being ripped off by them.
Many government agencies have pages about scams to avoid and how to recognize them, but they're usually generic. I figured posting the individual scams as soon as they got through my spam filters would pick up search traffic about those specific scams (which the info pages by the gov't agencies would not) and help warn people away.
I, too, got an identical letter to the one above, only this was http://www.jspartnergroup.com. I checked out the "About the Company" tab, and lo and behold, it has not only the EXACT same description of the company as the above listed "Guardian Consulting", but also the EXACT same "Board of Directors"! (Did anyone else notice the picture of "Lenhen Heimschild" looks like a photo of a photo?? You can even see the flash reflection off the picture!)
This is, unfortunately, a scam. To make this kind of money, we will all just have to get law or medical degrees, or just happen to strike oil while shooting at some food on our acreage.
DEATH TO SCAMMING!
I got the same email within 12 hours of filing a resume at CareerBuilders. It was not Guardian, however. JSPARTNERGROUP sent it. What caught my eye -- as a writer -- was the incorrect word usage and the request at the end to send contact information. If they had my resume they would have plenty of contact information. Also, on the "news" tab of their website there was nothing about the company. It was old cut and paste yahoo news.
I recently received an email from a "JS Partner Group" and, while researching the company and their "CEO" was directed to this website! Coincidentally, I received the same email. So, apparently they have recently switched their company name and website address. Just thought I should inform anyone curious.
I did my own investigation on "Frank Kleinstern" whose name is on the "contract" for this fabulously fake career offer. It refered me to Guardian Consulting. When I wrote to get "specific" job responsibilities, they said I'd be working with a "corproate account" only....no mention of my own being used. I've received numerous offers like these and have always been curious, but cautious about their intention. If it seems "too good to be true"....be cautious!
I actually got a phone call and the lady on the phone was very difficult to understand and was obviously reading a script. It sounded to good to be true on the phone and for all I know is that this lady was faking her "bad english". They emailed the contracts and I went to the website based on the end of the email address and the website seemed kind of fishy. The company is based out of the country and if you look at the right hand side of the screen the have very poorly copy and pasted logos on the site and the Western Union thing they show is obviously fake. Anyone who is contacted by this company avoid it, it's a scam which I quickly found out by doing my own research.
Same e-mail different name of company. Now the name is JS Partners Group. I also got a phone cal from someone speaking really fast in bad English. The rest was exactly the same. Thanks for the help.
I have just recieved an email from Trust Key. I noticed that Belinda has also had a simillar email. Is this another scam? I have replied to their email asking for more info and a web address. I will post any relevant info if I get a response.
I just got this email from -TrustKey '2008 id-583 <dcallison@vny.cn

I was sceptical about the whole thing - particularly the lack of any company name on the ad, or details of what the company does. It also says you will need a bank account, which rang alarm bells. I now note it has broken English in it as well. It has a different reply address to the sender, so I emailed the sender asking for clarification about the type of business it is, the nature of the work and the need for a bank account. That was earlier today and they have not replied. I will update everyone if they do, but meanwhile I am definitely NOT going to send them my CV!
Exact same message as jacqui, I thought about stringing them along
I just got an email from Meinhard Trust Group with the exact same wording as the Guardian email. I went to a site that listed registered German companies and, guess what, Meinhard Trust Group isn't listed! So, when I Googled Frank Kleinhard, I found this site. Housewifes, ?? housewives. and the part if you DYE.....busy housewifes dyes. They need to learn to spell. Meinhard DOES exist but I don't think they know anything about this job...
I received a job offer from a company called "Logic Group Inc." They offered me a job as a financial advisor and told me that all I had to do to start was open a bank account. Now, there is a legimate company called "The Logic Group", but this "Logic Group" is not that company. The bogus "Logic" company has a flashy green website, and if you type their company information into a search engine, it refers you back to the same website. Basically, if you try to research this company, you get nowhere. To qualify for this job I had to wire money, that they send from my bank account to other places. They told me that I would never use any of my own money, and that I would earn $1500 a month plus, 8% commission on each transaction. I didn't fall for it. I hope no one else does either. If you want to know more just e-mail me.
Rosaland
I received the email yesterday...only now the company is Meinhard Jewelers, believe it or not there is a jeweler named Meinhard. Fortunately there are sites like these to warn people, and luckily enough I found it by looking up the CEO Frank Kleinstern. Unfortunately I am without a job, unemployment is denied and my 1 year old needs to eat. People like this who try to scam others out of money should be boiled in oil.
I have come across this company too, though under the name of Onis Group. Here is there website--onis-group.com/. I knew that it sounded to good! I am glad that there are places like this to check things out. It is crazy though, b/c their website looked really good. Sigh, I guess there is no easy way to get extra money.
Sounded too good to me so I typed in the "onis-group" next to "scam" on Google and this page came up.. thanks everyone.. it is really sad I'm a mother of a 3 year old girl, I just left my abusive husband and I don't qualify for good jobs to get a car and put her in day care and then these ppl want to scam innocent ppl like us who have nothing and screw up our lives? I hope they also get boiled in oil like Erika said.
Same letter new company...Labean Furniture...SCARY
I got the same letter from ONIS-GROUP. Thanks for this website. You really save me from making a BIG MISTAKE. I have all the contracts and the company really looked legitimate. THANK YOU THANK YOU.
"They" - whoever they are - are escalating their scheme. Got today an email from Vacancy (Guardian.Trade.Inc@gmail.com) with "Guaradian Group team, Michael Cohen" signing. I have been hit with the same offers from the Onis Business Group.
What is really frustrating is I have spent hours on the phone with BBB, state Attorney General, Secretary of State, IRS and FTC and got absolutely NO Help. They knew nothing and couldn't suggest anything. I wiul say they person at the FTC Consumer Protection was helpful in saying.. "sounds iffy."
Why do we pay taxes?
A note for those looking for jobs using accredited employment sites: my wife has just received a mail from Reed UK - professional job-hunters with whom she'd previously registered - advising her of a job opening that matched her criteria.
She went to the advertiser's site, and it seemed fishy: most of the buttons didn't work, and the job application required her to download a program that, according to the site, would perform an 'automated interview'.
(Needless to say, the job was rather too good to be true.)
Turned out the 'automated interview' program was a malware dropper that would have installed a Trojan on her machine.
I checked with Reed's site (www.reed.co.uk), and was amazed to discover that advertising a fake job is horribly simple: anyone can do it for £50, and they guarantee at least ten responses. The job offer is automatically mailed to any registered job-hunter who roughly matches the criteria. Coming from an established employment agency, many job-seekers will no doubt be drawn in, and no doubt many will be suckered into downloading the malware. I assume that the program provides a dummy application form while it does its dirty work.
So - look out, people: a job opportunity from a reputable employment company could hide a nasty surprise. Checks are apparently nonexistent.
Within minutes of registering with CareerBuilder, the "unbelievable opportunity" from Labean Furniture dropped into my mailbox. It is a shame that anyone seriously looking for work has to suffer the scams. Thank you for this site to vent and make others aware.
My question is why aren't these job sites like Monster.com, Careerbuilder.com etc. checking out people to insure that their sites provide legitimate job offers? It seems so many of you have uncovered scams with what seems to be little or no trouble, so it doesn't make sense that the job sites couldn't also do this. I get scams like this all the time (the latest being Labean Furniture) and it really ticks me off that legitimate job sites are allowing this to happen when I am trying to receive legitimate job requests. Is this too much to ask?
Dawn,
Most of the job scam e-mails I get are received through e-mail addresses I never registered with any job board. The scammers say they found you through Monster or CareerBuilder because it makes them sound more legitimate, but Monster and CareerBuilder never had anything to do with it.
Just because I say I found you through Monster or CareerBuilder doesn't mean I actually did.
Imagine you send out 2 million spam e-mails. If just 5% of the people who receive them are registered with Monster, then you've hit 100,000 scam candidates. They send these out in those kinds of numbers.
