Job Scam: Milton Keynes Textiles LTD
Apr 9th, 2008 by Greg Bulmash
Picked up another check cashing scheme job scam that slipped through Yahoo's spam filters.
Basically, for those of you new to this, the scam is that criminals in other countries tell Americans, and now apparently Canadians and Australians too, they have a legitimate company that needs reps to receive payments for them in your country. You'll cash the checks, take a commission, and then wire them the rest of the money. Only problem is that these checks are fake, but often good enough to get initially cashed. So you take it to your bank, they give you the money, you wire off the bulk of it, and a week later your bank is telling you to give back the money or they're calling the police.
So here's the text of the job offer I was most recently sent...
Good Day,Would you like to work online from home and get paid weekly? Milton Keynes Textiles LTD needs a book-keeper in the United States,I want to know if you will like to work online from home and get paid weekly without leaving or affecting your present job? This is safe and legal.
My company produces various clothing materials, and traditional costumes which we have clients we supply weekly in the states and canada. My clients make payments for our supplies every week in form of payment which are not readily cash able outside the United States, So we need someone in the States to work as our representative and assist us in processing the payments from our clients and I will pay him/her weekly salary.
All you need do is receive these payments from our clients in your vicinity and get it cashed then deduct your weekly fee and forward the balance to our respective agents. As soon as we confirm any payment coming to you, I will let you know and I will provide instructions on how to process the payment.

Now the first thing to know is that if they were a legitimate business, any bank would be glad to assist them at much more competitive rates than they're offering you. So this offer is already suspect.
The second to know is that the job cashing checks is a scam that's been around a few years.
Third is the old adage: if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. No one is going to pay you good money for next to no work unlkess you're a friend of a politician or celebrity they want to make happy.
In worsening economic times, the opportunity for extra money may seem very tempting, but that's also when criminals start coming out of the woodwork, seeing the opportunities. Don't let your dreams or your desperation overcome your common sense.
Good luck to you all!
Hi Greg,
Thanks for the heads-up! The first thing I did was Google the company and your post was the first thing that came up. Unbelievable! Thanks!
Hi I actually recieved one of these check but before cashing it I checked the web and this site popped up . My question now is what do I do with this so called fake check. Do I shred it or do I take it the bank and tell them about the scam. I m only 18 so Im a little scared I hope some one replys
@Alexcia,
Until you actually try to cash the check, you have not done anything illegal. Call your local police department and ask to talk to a detective in the fraud division. Tell him or her your story and ask their advice.
Best of luck to you.
Hi,
The letter I received just today is a bit shorter than yours, and a different name, but the exact same scam!
(Please note some (minor?) errors that were as obvious as an 8 ball on a white sandy beach!)

Hello! I also recieved an email similar to this only from a Brian Howard. The grammar for such a professional letter seemed fishy to me, so I contacted hotmail about it... and then out of curiosity, I googled the company name to see if it was actually a company somewhere and your site came up! Thanks for the tips!
