Job Scam: All Money Group
Apr 18th, 2008 by Greg Bulmash
This latest one got through the spam filters less than an hour ago with the subject "New job opportunity with All Money Group" from Isabelle Short (terry@asetquality.com).
Here's a red flag... How many people's e-mail address has someone else's first name?
Another big red flag, the sender is at one domain but the contact you should reply to is at gmail.
Another big red flag... "Deposits Sending/wire transfers/western unions. Picking up western unions." This is where they send you a check from a "client" that they need cashed by you because they don't have accounts in the U.S. Then you're supposed to wire them the cash by Western Union. Only problem is that the check is a good enough quality fake to get cashed, but not cleared, so when it doesn't clear, your bank starts telling you that they want their money back. It's actually a really common and well known scam, but people keep falling for it.
They try to make it look like it's from/via CareerBuilder, but if you look at the headers, this never passed through Career Builder, it came straight from them using a bulk mailer called "The Bat". If they're faking Career Builder's blessing, they're faking other stuff, to be sure.
And their English is just plain terrible. Here's their educational requirement: "High School, College or equivalent; or one to ten three related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience." Huh? Wha?

As I try to tell people... if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. No one is going to pay you amazing amounts of money for work that anyone can do. They're going to sell you a pipe dream and it will cost you anywhere from a few hundred bucks to a few thousand. But even more, it will cost you your dignity and self respect once you've been rooked.
From one job hunter to another, best of luck to you.
I just got the exact same email today from "Sophia"

Thanks, Greg. The worse-than-bad English is certainly a red flag, and Googling the company produces no results. (And all the other things you mentioned.) Wasn't there a Dilbert where Dogbert wanted a job where he could telecommute -- and what he was really seeking was a direct deposit of his paycheck, for not going to work and not working, that is. Here's the other side. Money laundering. Now, that's a job description you just don't see everyday. Thanks again.
Yeah, I got the same thing. How do you report these assholes? Thanks.
