In a post on CNN, Jack Cafferty asked if gay marriage will be a wedge issue in the 2008 election like it was in 2004.

All the top answers seemed to focus on the fact that this time around there are bigger fish to fry and that's what would stop it from being an issue. Me, I believe it won't be an issue because they made a big thing of it to get votes and then did squat. If the Republicans bring it up in 2008, it's just a reminder of a broken campaign promise (one of many).
