I was very excited when I found out that Comcast's "On Demand" channel had finally expanded beyond CBS for network re-runs on demand. Not only that, but I was doubly excited because they were offering the entire first two seasons of "Heroes".
Then I found out they were charging for them. $1.99 for hi-def, $0.99 for standard-def.
With 35 episodes, that came out to $69.65 to watch them all in hi-def.... $69.65 to essentially rent a couple of DVDs worth of content. Can't download them, put them on my iPod, store them for repeat viewing in the hard-drive of my set-top box. Once I chose to rent one, I'd have a day or two to watch it and then I'd lose access to it.
Considering I can buy many shows at iTunes for $1.99 (although HBO upped it to $2.99 an episode for "Deadwood"), I can buy the standard-def DVDs for about the same price (better resolution than normal broadcast, but less than HD), or I can join Netflix and get the DVDs as part of my subscription, to rent at my leisure, I consider it an insult that Comcast and NBC would present this craptastic value proposition to me with a straight face.
I'm getting so tired of being seen as a pocket to be picked instead of a customer to be satisfied. WTF?
