Thanks so much for taking the time to research this company and report your findings to fellow job seekers. I too have a resume posted on all three of the major job sites and every once in a while, I an e-mail like this one. Thank God for Google search and people like you!

Received this email today and like most have been around enough to be immediately leery of it. My first act was to google BNR-national which led me to this page. Kudos to you Greg for for taking the time to investigate and post your findings on this scam.

I received that email today. I already knew it was a scam but still researched it anyway. Thanks for all the info. I know there are plenty gullible people out there that fall for these scams. As a rule of thumb, I count any job related email that comes unsolicited and only wants to link me to their job database as a scam.

@Curtis: I think the biggest complaint people have about Careerbuilder, Monster and the like, is that they do not do any screening of the people they let contact you, so you get scams like BNR, you get wildly inappropriate contacts about insurance sales or purchasing a franchise, and you get inquiries about contracts two or three thousand miles from any location you said you were willing to consider relocation to.

When they say companies, they're probably referring to how within 48 hours of updating your resume, every time you update your resume, you'll be contacted by at least two separate recruiters just from Farmers Insurance. I have no sales experience on my resume, I express no interest in sales either on my resume or via the "pick your preferred areas" functions, and still...

It's like being a woman on a singles site. You post a profile and photo, say you want a tall man, no kids, under 30, and the first three letters you get are from 40+ year old single dads, all under 5'6".

You wish the singles site would prevent these people from contacting you, but that's more work than they want to do, and these guys are paying membership fees.

Getting letters you don't want, be they from companies you'd never work for in a million years or people you'd never date in a million years, are pretty much a known cost of doing business on these sites. But people can still complain about it... and they will.

Me, I'm just boycotting Farmers Insurance. Not only won't I work for them, but their abuse of CareerBuilder and Monster ensures I'll never be their customer either.

I too...got the BNR email.
However, I would caution all from blaming "careerbuilder" as I have seen here.

Just think...what is "careerbuilder's" job? It's to "connect your resume and other info to people out there LOOKING for people looking-for-a-job like you". And they have done it. Maybe some of the people "looking for unemployed people" out there were not nice...yes...but "careerbuilder" DID do their job......

Secondly, I would not blame "companies". As someone who has experience...I do not believe that "BNR" is really a "company". A smart "company" would not operate as BNR has done. It just wouldn't be good business. "BNR", to me, is probably some huckster, operating out of some basement. An individual...just after some fast cash.

Such a shame....it gives EVERYONE a bad rap. Especially after looking over this blog.

Just my $0.02.

One point, I do agree that there are many of deplorable scams out there masking themselves as legitimate opportunities, BUT... using a service to mask the true identity of a web site's registered owner is a common practice and not some shady thing that only scam artists use to hide their identity. If you don't do this, you can get a lot of unsolicited attention from scam artists out there targeting web site owners.

I was just beginning to do my research. I appreciate you having done it all for me. :) I agree with the posters above that garbage like this seems to be a result of posting to Careerbuilder. I even complained to their support staff once about some charlatans selling "the power of positive thinking will make you rich" type of stuff. It didn't do me much good.

I advise that any would-be Careerbuilders make sure to sign up with an alternate email address or use some bacn management system.

Greg,

Thanks so much for this information. When I search for BNR Ntl. I stumbled across your posting first. What a time saver. Being unemployed is frustrating and stressful enough with out all this crap flooding your email.

I agree with Tim up there, you go to Monster and Career Builder and all you get is time consuming garbage in you email. And you waste precious time sorting it through it all in search of something real. Those sights are worthless and leave you feeling a little hopeless during these very poor economical times.

Thanks for your insight and God Bless,

Wendy

I also received the email today from
"Human Resources [HumanResources@mail165.subscribermail.com]."
Subject: "I saw your resume... please complete application. BNR-National"

I clicked on one of the so-called positions and an application popped up. I didn't enter any information and just clicked the "Submit" button. The next screen said, "Thank you for submitting...etc." I know for a fact that my information was retrieved from careerbuilder.com, because that was the only site I applied to. Now I get all sorts of emails wanting me to sell secondary insurance...YUCK!!! Though careerbuilder's job postings are mostly legitimate, registering with careerbuilder.com comes with a price. I do have a question about unsubscribing. Does your email actually get unsubscribed or sold to another company to send you further irritating emails?

This is really sad, considering I am a legitimate recruiter who genuinely tries to help professional find employment. I received this same email and googled them to get more information. That is how I came across this blog. True recruiters and recruiting companies will never try to sell you anything. Only seek your trust and cooperation in helping you to find great employment. Fees are always paid by the client who is seeking to fill a position, never the candidate. Most reputable recruiting agencies will offer free resume advice, interviewing tips and techniques, free testing, etc. to the candidate. Companies like this give recruiters and placement agencies a bad name, and it's a shame.

I've received a couple of these and was suspicious from the beginning when I hovered over the link and saw that the URL didn't just go to www.bnr-national.com but instead was directed to www.subscribermail.com. Like other posters here, I did some Google searching and found this site to confirm my suspicions.

I completely agree, total scam. They sent me the link to go and register, when I did I got routed to buy the "all important" interview CD's, with no way to get around the trial offer. I immediately left the site. Two days later, I get an E-mail from them saying they saw my resume and I should register at their site. I NEVER GOT TO THE POINT OF GIVING THEM MY RESUME THE FIRST TIME!! The only thing I gave them was the info on the "short form", which was basically my name and E-mail! Also, having trouble finding info on the actual company, not completely sure yet, but it appears to only be a dot.com company.
