Can't remember why it happened, perhaps it came up when my wife was watching the Penelope Cruz film Woman on Top, but we realized we hadn't seen much of Mark Feuerstein in a while. He'd been a hot property earlier in the decade, but after "Good Morning Miami" was cancelled, we really hadn't noticed him popping up anywhere. But it wasn't just that one time. He has come up in conversation like three times in the past week, some reference or another bringing him to mind.

Just saw an ad... Next month (June 14), HBO premieres the second season of "True Blood".

In other geek TV news... This month (May 16), BBC America will premiere the new season of "Primeval".

In July, Sidney Fy (better known to its new "cool" friends as SyFy) will finally begin doling out the last 10 episodes of season 3 of "Eureka".

Still haven't found an exact date for when BBC America will air the 5-episode miniseries substituting for the third season of "Torchwood". The only news is that it airs in the UK in June and it's due to run in the U.S. sometime after that, virtually guaranteeing that thousands of American fans will download it illegally rather than wait for the capricious scheduling whims of BBC brass (who won't even let U.S.-based web surfers watch the trailer for the next "Doctor Who" special).

A certain cable channel apparently does not want to be my friend any more, telling me that "sci-fi" is too geeky and going by the more "hip" and brandable "SyFy". Well, I believe that "Sy" is a nickname and nicknames are only used by friends, so I'll be using the more formal version of its name in all future reference to it... Sidney Fy.

Hey, NBC Universal, while you're in the midst of the big revamp of the SciFi channel, changing its name and trying to fix its image, how about taking the following suggestions?

  • FIRE the programming department. Fire the idiots who added wrestling to the schedule. Fire the people who promised a 23-episode season of "Eureka" then aired 13, then put it on hiatus until January, then didn't bring it back, and now are claiming they'll air the ten-episode "second half of Season 3" starting when Season 4 should have started.
  • Stop making all these cheap, filmed-in-Eastern-Europe schlockfests that make us long for the return of "Roger Corman Presents" on Showtime as a step-up in quality. I mean, come on, your big relaunch features movies starring Jason Gedrick (fighting CGI sand worms), James Marsters (fighting CGI alien bugs in the old west), and Peta Wilson (fighting CGI goblin sharks).
  • The only question Amanda Tapping is the answer to is "who was my favorite geek hottie of 1997."
  • Communicate better with your hardcores. People are still thinking that you've abandoned the new season of "Doctor Who" (because they don't know it's being done as a handful of TV movies). Besides all the real reasons you give fans to be annoyed with you, your lack of communication on when faves are coming back gets you blamed when it's not your fault.

I used to watch 3-4 hours of your channel a week. You represented 1/3-1/2 of my weekly viewing. Know how much of my weekly viewing you represent now? ZERO percent. And that's not punitive. That's not an intentional boycott. It's because I can't find anything worth watching on your channel. Your name isn't the problem. It's the issues above. If all that changes in July is your name, then you'll deserve the death of a thousand cuts that is going to bleed the life, viewership, and ad revenues out of your channel.
