ComicScript Demo

A few days back, more than one web comic artist I follow linked to an interactive comic as an example of a cool use of technology to enhance cartooning. The problem for me was that it was in Flash and a little complicated. I wanted to build a tool that any cartoonist could use to create something like that.

What you see below is a proof of concept. It's two eight-panel strips that run concurrently, basically an 8 x 2 grid. You can use the arrow buttons on the frame to move up and down, back and forth. What's in the works is a way for an artist to specify the size of his/her panel grid, some information about how he's naming his panel files, and get all the HTML and JavaScript files he/she needs to implement a grid on his/her own site. I actually would have embedded this in my blog, but I realized too late I'd made it too physically wide for my blog's text area.

So, try it out, see if you like it. Then post a comment.
