I am sure Mammon was afraid of an attack, Kurt just took out two vamps and nothing. That kind of mind would scare the crap out of a demon, he has seen all of Hell in all of eternity and walked away to talk about it. What a twist in the last few chapters, totally changed the direction of the story and then put it back on the same path.
